Mississippi Mud: Southern Justice and the Dixie Mafia, by Edward Humes
This is a book describing a murder that happened in Biloxi in 1987. Here is what is written on the back cover of the book:
On a quiet September afternoon, Lynne Sposito learned that her parents, Vincent and Margaret Sherry, had been shot to death in their
Biloxi, Mississippi, home. One of the city's most prominent couples -- he served as Circuit Court judge and she was running for mayor
-- the Sherry's were mourned by a community. But for a stunned and grieving daughter, the nightmare was just beginning.
Racing to Biloxi for answers, Lynne found the police investigation in chaos. The only sure lead was that the Sherry's murder somehow
was connected to the Dixie Mafia, a predatory band of criminals who ran Biloxi's beachfront hub of sex, drugs, and sleaze known as The
Strip. Lynne, armed with a savvy private eye -- and a .357 Magnum -- set out to accomplish what the authorities could not or would not
do: hunt down her parents' assassins and bring them to justice.
Pulitzer Prize-winner Edward Humes delivers a shocking and bizarre tale set against a teeming underworld of merciless killers, ruthless
con men, and venal politicians. Mississippi Mud portrays how one woman's steely obsession for the truth shook a city to its foundation
-- and nearly destroyed everything she loved.
This book can be found on Amazon starting at $2.86 for a used copy, or in local bookstores. It is not available for e-books.
Hope to see you in January!

If you are interested in joining us for this discussion, the info is listed below. This book has a short reading time, so if you
want to read it, you need to find it ASAP! If you are interested in reading this book, and aren't on the Book Club list, please

Katie Up and Down the Hall: The True Story of How One Dog Turned Five Neighbors into a Family, by Glenn Plaskin
Wednesday, November 30th at 6:30 pm
Mary Fitzgerald's house
Amazon's Synopsis of the Book:
A personal memoir by bestselling author and celebrity journalist Glenn Plaskin, KATIE is a
moving story about a man who discovers the true meaning of family after adopting a cocker spaniel puppy. Through the magnetic
personality of his mischievous dog, the author soon makes powerful connections with several of his down-the-hall neighbors in
a high-rise located in the unique Battery Park City neighborhood of Lower Manhattan. First, Katie trots into the lives of Pearl
and Arthur, a warm-hearted elderly couple just a few doors down from Glenn. Later, John, a single Dad, and his rambunctious
young son, Ryan, also move in and are seduced by Katie's charms.
All of their lives are profoundly changed as they are transformed from neighbors to friends to family, with Pearl as matriarch.
The motherless boy finds a "Granny"; his Dad inherits a mother, Glenn discovers a confidante. Set in New York City, we witness
nearly sixteen years of antics and family adventures spanning Hollywood high times, bad health, accidents, blustery winters,
even the terrors of 9/11. Through it all, the family clings to each other, sharing a deep bond that give each comfort, support
and security.
Based upon a widely-read article in Family Circle, here is an unforgettable story about the love that makes a family-one that
transcends the hard realities of time, tragedy, and inevitable loss.
